Term 3

We have a very busy term again with lots of exciting topics to study.

In Literacy we will be working on writing explanations and this will link to our Health, Science and Technology units as we study food and nutrition, sound and musical instruments.  Our PE will be focused on the Winter Tournament for the first few weeks; this involves children choosing from Rippa, Hockey, Football or Netball.  We will also be practising skipping and fitness with some circuit training.

In maths we will be working on algebra, fractions and 2 and 3d shapes, as well as working on our basic facts, times tables and division.  Our term begins with Maori Language Week and we will be learning a new word each week and focusing on pronunciation.

The children have set some goals for themselves related to our term ahead and are excited and ready for their new learning.

If you have any questions, please come and see me or email me.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

We have a new set of 'children' in room 19.  They are all eggs!  Not boiled ones either.  As part of our programme Keeping Ourselves Safe, and understanding the concept that we are all precious and need looking after, the children are looking after an egg for four days.  Unfortunately one was broken before 9am on the first day and two more during the morning but with sticking plasters we have managed to save the latter.  All the eggs have names and many have little beds and houses.  We'll keep you posted on progress but after the four days are up, I plan to do use the eggs for a variety of Science experiments.  Will the children give them up I wonder?

New to blogging

Room 19, including the teacher, are new to blogging.  We hope to have an individual blog set up for each child in term 3 but for now, check out our posts as we update the class blog.

Travel blog writing

Check out our travel blogs. These have been typed in Google docs after research and have been edited by the children and commented on by the teacher.  Not all amendments have been made as suggested but you will get an idea of the work your child is producing.  Remember, most children have never been to these places!
